Peer Support

The Peer support groups offer the opportunity for HIV positive people to meet others living/affected by HIV, to share experiences and offer support and advice in a safe, friendly and comfortable environment.

The groups also provide discussions on particular topics of interest, for example, relationships, disclosure, sex, recreational drugs and combination therapy. There is also the opportunity for guest speakers on topics for discussion chosen by the group.

Refreshments and a healthy meal are provided at the groups. At the support group there is the opportunity to get a complementary therapy.

If you feel that you would like someone to make contact with you before coming along to one of the groups, we can provide you with a mentor who will make contact with you and will also be at the group to which you choose to come along.

Peer support has proven to be tremendously important towards helping individuals living with HIV move through difficult situations.

In peer support groups, people who have like experiences can better relate and can consequently offer more authentic empathy and validation.

It also provides people with similar lived experiences to offer each other practical advice and suggestions for strategies that professionals may not offer or even know about.

Peer support groups offers:

Gay men, African communities, Women, heterosexual men, newly diagnosed, children and families affected by HIV.
